El Cisne.

This was the first cottage built on the farm. I am not sure of the date for I was a baby at that time. But I would say 1943 or thereabouts. The name came from the swans found on Laguna del Diario, in droves, lots of black necked swans swimming placidly on the lake. My father lived here with us on weekends and holidays while he went building the rest of the farm. Being a civil engineer he knew what he was doing....and being extra-thorough of character he built with a sturdiness that people nowadays, when we recycle some building shake their heads in disbelief!

Main Bedroom. There is wonderful cupboard space in this bedroom and lovely views onto fields with horses. There is another bedroom and above the latter an attic. And there is also a maid's bedroom and bathroom beside the kitchen. Principal bathroom below right.

October is Wisteria time! This pergola under which the
cars are parked in the summer, with exhuberant foliage, is
purely purple flowers in spring. Quite a sight. And in the
summer many a barbecue is cooked on the "parillero".
We offer in our package, wood for the barbecue, water, light,
maid service. Weekly changing of sheets and towels. This
cottage in particular sleeps 4-6 and a maid.

A little about Laguna del Diario. This lagoon is called thus because the horses that were used a great deal or on a daily basis for the garrison (colonial times) were allowed loose on the fields around the lake. The Sierra de la Ballena was hostile and they didn't climb up over it. So the daily horses were to be fetched from there. This is the translation for Diario. A diario means on a dialy basis. No meaning of newspaper fits this place name. All places in the countryside in Uruguay that are a Dead End are named Rincon. Thus the area where my father's farm was, was called Rincon del Diario. It is in disuse now. As another road has been built to access the area.
Back to the lagoon. When we were children there was allsorts of fowl on the lake. The most magnificent sight were the pink spoonbills. There were thousands of them. Truly a wondrous sight to see them steeped with their long legs in the lagoon, but particularly when the flock took to the wing....the pink colour was breathtaking.
